Air Conditioning Service

As with any other mechanical or electrical object that you own or use regularly, your air conditioning unit will need to be serviced to ensure it operates smoothly and safely. The unit is constructed by filters and coils which require maintenance to function efficiently and keep your energy bills at a steady cost. Let us walk you through the steps of a standard service to give you an insight into what to expect.

The first step of the service would be for an initial observation to check if there are any leaks present externally, or from any of the pipes within the unit. Once this has been carried out, it will be safe for your engineer to remove any dirt or dust from within your air conditioning unit. If there is an excessive build up of this debris, your unit will lack the energy needed to cool or heat the room as it once did, resulting in you increasing the power and raising your energy bills.

During the service, your engineer will also take out the fins (otherwise known as the grilles, located on the external part of your unit) and chemically clean them before drying thoroughly and dusting once more, ensuring that there are no remains of dirt, dust or mould. The same process is carried out with the evaporator fan, drip tray and AC condenser (located internally).

The coolant level will be next on your engineers list of things to check. If the coolant level is too low, the cooling coil will drop below average temperature and it is possible that your unit could fault and stop working, resulting in costly repairs or a full replacement.

The coils are then inspected and cleaned of dust and debris. A build up of these components will result in your air conditioning unit overheating, once again causing a potential break down with costly repairs or replacements.

The engineer will then go on to observe and check the joinings, tightening those which may have come loose since the installment or last service, checking the thermostat and adjusting the relevant factors if needed and assessing the fan motors as well as testing the sequence between the remote controller and the unit itself. All mains power and voltage use will need to be observed and tested to ensure the safe function of the air conditioning unit, no matter whether the plant is internal or external, as well as checking the correct rotation of the condensing unit fan(s) or motor running currents.

A full report would then be written up, including descriptions of any repairs which have been or need to be made and will be signed off by your engineer. The F-Gas register should also be updated with details of the leak test method that was carried out and the accurate results.

Here at JP Air Conditioning, we advise that your units should be serviced at least twice annually. We also offer a deep clean upon request at the booking stage of each service.
